Anthem Breaks Ground on New Technology Center in Tech Square
At the corner of West Peachtree and 3rd, new 21-story tower is under construction

Midtown continues to demonstrate why it’s Atlanta’s hot spot for innovation and technology as another tech company breaks ground in the district’s Technology Square.
In late-February, Fortune 500 company Anthem and developer Portman Holdings officially broke ground in Midtown on their new technology center. Built to house 3K employees, the new building is currently on track to be completed in early 2020.
“Anthem could have planted their flag anywhere,” said Midtown Alliance President and CEO Kevin Green. “We’re are so proud they chose Atlanta and they are going to be in very good company.”
With Anthem’s groundbreaking, the tally of large scale construction now totals 22 active projects within Midtown’s 1.2 square mile footprint. In addition to the momentum of construction in the pipeline, more than 17,000 jobs have been announced for Midtown since 2015.
Magnet for Mobility
A key contributor to Midtown’s appeal for Anthem’s expansion in Atlanta is the district’s connectivity to public transit and bike lanes.
“It's great companies like Anthem who are choosing to come to the heart of the city because of the connectivity and the opportunities for all of their employees who will soon call Midtown Atlanta their work home,” expressed Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance-Bottoms.
Expanding on the Mayor’s remarks, Ambrish Baisiwala, CEO of Portman Holdings, noted the below-average parking ratio with fewer than 600 parking spaces planned – below the current trend of two parking spaces per 1,000 square feet. Located a stone’s throw away from Midtown’s North Avenue Station, employees at the new Anthem offices will be encouraged to use transit, biking and ridesharing as commute options.
Next-Gen Workplace Design
In Anthem’s new facility, the interior spaces will support Anthem’s progressive and collaborative work style. More than 14,000 square-feet of terrace area will allow for inviting green space, bringing the outside in, to support health and wellness. Two-story atriums will connect the two halves of the building and offer employees a space to mingle. Unlike most office towers, stairs will be incorporated in the heart of the building, offering employees the chance to walk between floors. Additionally, the building will have two amenity levels—at floors 8 and 16—which will offer dining options, lounges, a gym, and game rooms.
