Enormous Mixed-Use Project Breaks Ground in North Midtown
Development will serve as Invesco’s global headquarters

Midtown Union, a large mixed-use project at the north end of the Midtown district, broke ground December 9 during a ceremony attended by developers and other local and national business leaders.
The 26-story, 606K-square-foot office tower component of the project will be anchored by investment management company Invesco, which is moving its global headquarters from nearby Two Peachtree Pointe in Midtown.
Currently Invesco has about 650 employees in Atlanta, and it will add 500 more jobs in Midtown as a result of the move.
“We wanted more than just space, we wanted to be part of the community,” said Invesco CEO Marty Flanagan at the Midtown Union groundbreaking. “It’s going to be a very vibrant development and we’re thrilled to be part of it.”
Project Will Add New Street Connection in Midtown’s Heart of the Arts
Master developer Granite Properties will extend the street known as Arts Center Way through the project to improve Midtown’s street grid for vehicles and pedestrians and offer better access to the Arts Center MARTA Station. The new street’s landscaped environment will also offer green space and other amenities accessible to all.
“It will create a really important connection to the world class Woodruff Arts Center,” said Granite Properties President and CEO Michael Darden. “Those are the things we’re hopeful we can be involved in and add to the fabric of the community.”
Midtown Union will rise at the corner of 17h and Spring Streets. Developers twice presented designs for the project to the Midtown Development Review Committee, a group that represents residents, property and business owners, institutions, neighborhood associations and MARTA. After working with the committee to strengthen the designs, the project received approval in September 2019.
"We've had a great partnership with the City of Atlanta and Midtown Alliance," said John Robbins, senior managing director of Granite Properties.
About the Project
Midtown Union will also include:
- - 18-story, 250-unit residential tower
- - 12-story hotel
- - 30K square feet of retail space
- - 1,900 parking spaces
Midtown Union is slated for completion in 2022.
