Dog Days of Summer: More Businesses Cater to Pet-Friendly Living in Midtown
With its tree-lined streets and proximity to greenspace, Midtown creates a true neighborhood feel for residents … and their furry friends.
More businesses in Midtown are now catering to dogs than ever before, including TAP, EcoDenizen, and Sweethut. These businesses are among a growing number of restaurants, shops, and private offices that have added dog bowls and leash tie-ups at their entrances, encouraging passersby to stop, hydrate their pups, and shop or dine.
“Having dog bowls provided by businesses along the sidewalk is very convenient,” said Midtown resident Jess Choi. “Now that it's summer and the days keep getting hotter, it’s really nice to know that my dog has somewhere to hydrate thanks to these businesses.”
Midtown Green Effort Maintains Spaces for Pups to Play
In addition to the street-level perks Midtown retailers are providing, Midtown Green, a program of Midtown Alliance, works every day to ensure that area streets and parks are clean and inviting for all to enjoy, maintaining pet waste stations and publicly accessible green space.
Efforts Underway to Identify and Create More Greenspace in Midtown
Midtown Alliance has a goal to make it so that people in Midtown are never more than a 10-minute walk of a greenspace.
“Greenspace in cities is no longer considered a nice-to-have, but is now a must-have for an exceptional urban experience,” notes Midtown Alliance President and CEO Kevin Green. ”We are looking creatively at ways to secure and activate more public space throughout the district, and our leadership has made clear that this is a very high priority.” Look for more on this topic soon.
New Apartments Attract Residents with Pet-Friendly Amenities
Midtown’s residential population is at an all-time high, and is projected to reach over 25,000 in the next few years, up almost 5X from the year 2000. And it’s likely the number of canine companions in our district will also grow quickly. As new residents are looking for their future homes, pet perks abound at many of the district’s new residential towers. Apartments that have been built in recent years are using unique amenities to attract new residents, including pet spas, large dog parks, and personal walkers contracted by the association.
A more recent example of these features can be found at Alta Midtown, the new complex across from the Midtown MARTA station. Featuring apartments with direct street access, a 75-foot long dog park, a pet spa with multiple grooming stations, and an impressive one-acre private park, Alta Midtown has raised the bar for apartments that cater to Midtown residents with dogs.
“We have the option to provide the luxuries of a backyard in the middle of a city,” said Alta Midtown’s Daniel Guillaro. “Our one-acre private park is unheard of in Midtown and is a great selling point for dog owners.”
