What happens when you
re-imagine open space?
The possibilities are endless...
What if 160 SF of one empty on-street parking space could be made into something else, even if just for a day? Midtown Atlanta community partners rose to the challenge by temporarily transforming a handful of parking spaces into mini-parks on Friday, Sept. 18 in celebration of PARK(ing) Day a global urban planning and transportation event.
Midtown’s “parklets” featured a range of activities that stretched people’s imaginations about what you can do in a parking space: from placing pencil to sketchpad in the High Museum of Art’s outdoor drawing room to jamming with friends in a music-themed mini-park from local architecture firm Lord Aeck Sargent or even creative expression through artful tagging on a graffiti wall hosted at Tech Square by SandBox and SQ5. Flip through the slideshow below to see what’s possible when you rethink even the smallest amount of open space in an urban environment.
Thank You to Our Partners
Many thanks to all of these Midtown community partners for bringing fun and excitement street-side and making our event a great success.
