Celebrate MODA’s current exhibition, Close to the Edge: The Birth of Hip Hop Architecture, by cross-stitching your favorite hip-hop lyrics in a workshop hosted by Sarah Roberts!
Wait — what is cross-stitch? Well, it’s a type of embroidery in which the needlework creates designs that appear pixelated. In recent years, cross-stitch has become a vehicle for craftivism (craft + activism), and it is used to assert diverse identities and demand social change.
In this hands-on workshop, we will learn how cross-stitch became subversive, but we’ll also cover the basics of cross-stitching, how to create a design, and how to make that design a reality. Just bring your passion — we’ll provide the hoops, needles, embroidery floss, and patterns!
This workshop is appropriate for ages 16+, and it’s a great way to get acquainted with craftivism, learn to cross stitch (or practice skills you already have), create something brilliant, and make new friends. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced stitcher, we’d love your company.
Registration is just $25 (or $20 for MODA members).
Please reach out to MODA's Visitor Experience Manager at miranda@museumofdesign.org if you have questions or accessibility needs.
