On the eve of its premiere, this Requiem was mocked as “[Verdi’s] latest opera in ecclesiastical garb.” In fact, his genius for drama is exactly what buoys this spellbinding Requiem Mass. A signature piece for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the Verdi Requiem plumbs the depths of the ensemble with thundering brass, sublimely lyrical string and wind playing, and stunning choral textures. For this very special program, Maestro Nathalie Stutzmann welcomes an all-star lineup of soloists from the world of opera.
