Mahler interpreter Nathalie Stutzmann presents the complete song cycle The Boy’s Magic Horn, a wondrous world of storytelling drawn from centuries of folk poetry. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra welcomes two rising stars, Fleur Barron, a “revelation . . . [a] meltingly rich mezzo” (L.A. Times), and Samuel Hasselhorn, a baritone possessing a “rich, dark sound” and gift for “[evoking] emotional extremes” (The Guardian). Maestro Stutzmann pairs the Mahler with a symphony by Shostakovich, a defiant, action-packed tragicomedy written under the thumb of a murderous tyrant in Soviet Russia.
