Commissioned for the ASO and Maestro Spano, The Parallactic Transits invites audiences to look to the stars. "I hope to paint an image both of the stars slowly moving in our field of vision and of we ourselves, moving metadimensionally around the heavens," said the composer.
Returning to Symphony Hall this season is the explosively talented mandolin player, Avi Avital. The first mandolin soloist to be nominated for a classical Grammy® award, Avital has delighted ASO audiences in past performances, and this weekend he returns to play a brand-new mandolin concerto from composer Jennifer Higdon.
Looking to the East, Maestro Spano conducts Rimsky-Korsakov's classic Scheherazade, the story of the crafty wife of the sultan who spins epic tales with cliffhanger endings for 1,001 nights. Rimsky-Korsakov paints an elaborate picture of Arabian nights — you can almost smell the spices at the bazaar and forget you're in Symphony Hall!
Atlanta Symphony Hall will be implementing a mandatory vaccine policy for audiences. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to performance, as well as matching photo ID, will be required upon arrival to Atlanta Symphony Hall. As of November 1, patrons under 12 will not be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test. More details are available on our Health & Safety page.
