Infatuation leads to the guillotine in Berlioz’s 1830 breakout piece, Symphonie fantastique. With almost cinematic realism, Berlioz spins the soundtrack to his own aching heart, producing a fantastical soundscape that has beguiled listeners for nearly 200 years. The concert opens with Carlos Simon’s 2020 Fate Now Conquers. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra welcomes guest conductor Stéphane Denève and the extraordinary Augustin Hadelich for the Violin Concerto written in 1939 by young Benjamin Britten.
