Three Midtown Projects Recognized by ULI Atlanta for Design Excellence
“Outstanding examples in Midtown” include Interface, NCR HQs

The Urban Land Institute’s Atlanta Chapter recognized three Midtown projects — all located within a one square-mile area — at its 25th Annual Awards of Excellence in Development event.
The three projects, which include NCR Corp. Global Headquarters, lilli Midtown and Interface Headquarters, were reviewed by the Midtown Development Review Committee (DRC), a group of individuals appointed jointly by the City of Atlanta and Midtown Alliance to advocate for high-quality development. The designs of all three projects were applauded onstage previously at Midtown Alliance’s Annual Meetings — NCR was acknowledged at the 2018 annual meeting, while the other two buildings were recognized just this year.
ULI’s Development of Excellence program inspires practitioners to raise their game
The ULI Atlanta Development of Excellence program is designed to elevate projects that embody the ULI mission of leadership in the responsible use of land. Through a rigorous review process, developments are evaluated on a range of criteria from design to market acceptance, sustainability to filling a unique community need.
Winners were recognized at an awards dinner on Sept. 12.
“Achieving quality design has never been more important to defining Atlanta’s identity as a world-class center,” said ULI Atlanta Executive Director Sarah Kirsch. “Like Midtown Alliance, we celebrate projects that embrace excellent design and positively impact the way people experience their city. All practitioners can look to these outstanding examples in Midtown for inspiration to raise their game.”

Lilli Midtown Luxury Apartments
JPX Works’ lilli Midtown, a 24-story apartment tower designed by architecture firm ODA, was recognized for Excellence In Housing Development. The building rose on a small lot (barely one-third of an acre) at the corner of 3rd and Peachtree Streets, a site previously dubbed “one of the most prominent eyesores in the city” by Atlanta Magazine. The modern and unique structure added 147 rental units to the market.
“It was an honor to win, but it is also an honor to be an active member of the DRC,” said JPX Works Founder Jarel Portman. “I take both very seriously, and hope I can be of service to better our built environment in Atlanta.”

Interface HQ
The Interface headquarters, located at the corner of West Peachtree and 16th Streets, took home the award for Excellence in Adaptive Reuse/Repurposing. Designs for the 40,000-square-foot building were focused on sustainability, from a window treatment depicting the Piedmont Forest that conserves energy to a 15,000-gallon water collection system. Like lilli Midtown, Interface was built without adding a single parking space.

NCR Headquarters
At the beginning of 2018, NCR Corp. officially opened its new global headquarters in Midtown. The 750,000-square-foot offices at Spring and 8th Streets are home to about 5,000 employees, who enjoy amenities that include dining options, outdoor seating, a gym, informal creative spaces and an outdoor lecture space.
