Sing Along Under the Stars at Midtown Movie Nights
This new series at 10th Street Park kicks off April 20.

Come join Midtown Alliance for some cinematic classics under the stars with our new movie series in 10th Street Park!
Last October, Midtown Alliance piloted an outdoor movie with a showing of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds,” at Commercial Row Commons, in honor of both the Swallows public art installation hanging overhead as well as the spooky season. The event was such a big success that Midtown Alliance decided to move it to a bigger venue at 10th Street Park.
“We’re excited to try out movies at the newly-renovated 10th Street Park. We have ramped up our event calendar and outdoor movies are a great way to gather the community together after dark for a shared neighborhood experience,” says Ansley Whipple, Midtown Alliance’s Project Manager for Programming and Activation.
“Midtown Movie Nights” kicks off at sunset on Thursday, April 20 in 10th Street Park, at the corner of 10th and Peachtree Streets. The event is free with free popcorn on a first-come, first-served basis - but please bring your own chairs to sit on.
For the first two Midtown Movie Nights on April 20 and May 25, Midtown Alliance has partnered with Out On Film, an LGBT film organization that has been around for more than 35 years. Out On Film Festival won USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Award for best film festival in 2023.
These first two event dates, we’ll be screening beloved musicals, and singing along is encouraged.
The first movie night on April 20 will feature “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” a movie about a gender-queer punk rock singer from East Berlin touring the United States with her band as she tells her life story and follows her former lover and bandmate who stole her songs.
“‘Hedwig’ to me is a cult classic; I think we can all relate to it,” said Out on Film Executive Director Jim Farmer. “It’s about being who you are, discovering yourself, and it doesn’t matter what other people think. Plus the music is so amazing. I remember the lyrics from the first time I saw it, and I’ve been singing it ever since.”
For the second Midtown Movie night, Farmer and Midtown Alliance event organizers selected another musical classic, “Grease.”
“Everybody knows ‘Grease,’ everyone has seen it and everyone can sing the soundtrack,” Farmer said. “It’s great to see with friends. There’s a sort of comfort to it.”
