Midtown Alliance, Central Atlanta Progress/ADID Help the Atlanta PD Create a Safer City

Earlier today Midtown Alliance and Central Atlanta Progress/Atlanta Downtown Improvement District celebrated its partnership with the Atlanta Police Department with a donation of 10 Segways to the Zone 5 precinct to help further enhance communication and interaction between officers and the public.

APD initiated this effort after evaluating new ways to engage with citizens and visitors in the Midtown and Downtown areas. Essentially, this will get officers out of patrol cars, allowing them to be more mobile around these heavily populated areas.

Midtown Alliance, APD Partnership Contributes to A Safer Midtown

Midtown Blue, Midtown Alliance's public safety program, works jointly with the Atlanta Police Department to offer round-the-clock services for a safer Midtown, and their ongoing partnership spans nearly 15 years. Midtown's public safety force includes a crew of 40 off-duty Atlanta Police Department officers augmented by a 7-member public safety foot, bike and Segway patrol. Year-to-date, overall crime in Midtown's core is down by 16%.

"These partnerships are absolutely critical to the safety of our city," said Midtown Alliance Public Safety Director Chris Leighty.
