Meet Deanna in her studio, see her artwork and hear more about her artistic practice. Learn how her exploration of color and light translates from painting to digital work and even application onto sweet treats – provided complementary to guests!   

Deanna’s frequent collaborator, Nuno Veiga, will perform at the event as a guest DJ. Nuno is a Portuguese video, sound, and theater artist from Lisbon, visiting the United States for the first time. Deanna and Nuno have collaborated on five projects. Because of the pandemic, all of their collaborations to date have been created remotely.

About the Artist 

Deanna Sirlin is known for an approach to painting that combines color and abstraction, technology, digital information and translation. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Sirlin moved to Atlanta after visiting the city during her solo exhibition at Berry College in 1987. Her recent solo exhibitions include Strata at the Center of Art and Culture in Évora, Portugal; Watermark, at the Crosland Tower Library at Georgia Tech; and Wavelength at Chastain Gallery in Atlanta. Her installation “Borders of Light and Water” was in the exhibition Reflections which was part of the 59th Venice Biennale in Italy in 2022. Sirlin is the Editor-in-Chief of The Art Section and often reviews art for Arts ATL. Her book, She’s Got What It takes: American Women Artists in Dialogue was published by Charta Art Books. 

Deanna was selected as a Midtown Heart of the Arts artist in residence via a competitive application process. Her studio is sponsored by Emory University. Special thanks to Emory for making this program possible and to St. Luke's Episcopal Church for additional support.

Directions and Parking  

Deanna’s studio is located in a Peachtree Street storefront across from Emory University Hospital Midtown.  

Transit: The studio is located along to the #40 bus route - look for the Peachtree/Renaissance Pkwy stop. Or, it’s a 5 minute walk from Civic Center MARTA Station.  

Parking: Metered on-street parking is available along Peachtree and Pine Streets. Public parking is also available in the Emory University Hospital Midtown deck, located across the street at 550 Peachtree Street (exit the deck on level D), and in surface lots to the south of the Peachtree/Pine intersection.
