Midtown Alliance Annual Meeting Examines Public Life as Catalyst for Resiliency

More than 900 business, civic, and community leaders will get together to examine the future of our city at Midtown Alliance’s 46th Annual Meeting. The February 8 event, which takes place at the historic Fox Theatre, comes at a pivotal time for Midtown: the district has welcomed a record amount of new office, residential and hotel space over the past year.

Six major development projects were delivered in 2022 inside one square mile of Midtown. With this, over the last 24 months the core of Midtown will have delivered, or has currently under construction more than 4.2M SF office, 6,500 residential units, 900 hotel keys and 250K SF of retail.

“We believe this is the most development activity Midtown has ever experienced over a 24-month period.  And in a place that has been as active as Midtown over the last two-plus decades, that’s saying something,” said Midtown Alliance President and CEO Kevin Green.

Midtown Alliance has also delivered improvement projects in 2022 that added 40K square feet of public space to the district, with another 10 capital projects totaling more than $35M in construction costs either currently under construction, out for bid, or scheduled to be bid during the first half of 2023.

“But it’s not all about dollars of investment or square feet of new projects – it’s about creating community and that requires a compelling urban experience at street-level.” Green said. “We believe that urban districts that are intentional about prioritizing robust public life on the streets and in outdoor spaces will be the most resilient amid all the changes we're seeing in cities today. The 2023 Midtown Alliance Annual Meeting will present a timely opportunity to examine where Midtown is today, where we want to be and how we can get there.”

Featuring substantive updates from Midtown Alliance, city leadership and partners, the annual meeting is the district’s most anticipated event each year. This year’s message will build on key themes shared at the 2022 event, which zeroed in on the importance of creating robust public life and access to thriving public spaces in Atlanta’s post-pandemic future.

From this imperative, Midtown Alliance struck a partnership with Gehl Studio to develop a comprehensive public life action plan for the district that aligns the interests of building owners, design, economic development strategies, social cohesion, transportation goals and more. Gehl Studio Director Anna Muessig will deliver the keynote address at the 2023 Midtown Alliance Annual Meeting on how this holistic action plan comes to life, and what Midtown stakeholders need to do together next to ensure success.
