May 2023 Events in Pictures

06/01/2023

BY ELIZABETH McGINNESS

Midtown Alliance has hosted 15 community events in the past 30 days. While we catch our breath, enjoy this recap in pictures of what we’ve been doing lately to bring people together and build community. What’s it all for? Bringing more energy to streets, strengthening the bonds people feel to Midtown as a place, helping workplaces justify the commute for hybrid workers, supporting retail, and everything in between. Thanks to everyone who has participated with us lately.

Pawty in the Park May event

The May edition of our monthly Pawty in the Park event was great! Food from Godtoh and music from DJ Neon Horror provided the perfect scene for dog owners and dog enthusiasts to get together and enjoy the city.

Staff BBQ Meet and Greet

We were so glad we had the opportunity to meet you all at our BBQ “Meat and Greet” event. Free lunch and discussions about our work to improve Midtown filled the noon hour.

Jazz on the Plaza

Midtown Alliance partnered with the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs to host “Jazz on the Plaza'' every Tuesday in May as part of the Atlanta Jazz Festival’s 31 Days of Jazz celebration. We loved hearing from Hani'el ML Trio, Matt Wauchope Trio, Akeem Marable & 3AM, and the Mario Fogg Quartet featuring Michael Cruse.

Bike to Work Week

Bike to Work Week created community for cyclists. Our Midtown Transportation team hosted two classes about Basic Bike Maintenance needs. We also were super excited to put on a bike commuter breakfast where commuters were able to pick up breakfast on their ride into work before starting their day!

Acoustic Wednesdays

The May lineup of Acoustic Wednesdays events were a huge hit! Singers Riley Schatz, Alex Gordon, and Logan Winkles all showcased their terrific talents for fans at Commercial Row Commons.

Midtown Movie Night

Go, Greased Lightnin’! Hundreds attended our outdoor movie showing of “Grease” in 10th Street Park that we screened in partnership with Atlanta Out on Film.

Elevance Event

The focus of our special ‘Let’s Talk Midtown’ event in the lobby of the Elevance Health building was on talking about public life in Midtown. Community members learned more about Midtown Alliance’s mission and their role in it, providing feedback that our team can use to refine our work.

Sunday Funday at MODA

Blooming flowers filled our Sunday Funday event at MODA. Community members signed up to test out their sidewalk chalking skills and filled a square of their choosing with beautiful flowers to celebrate Mother’s Day. We enjoyed food from the Negril food truck and played with bubbles in the sun.

More events are coming your way this summer. Check out our event calendar for the latest details.
