Data & Spatial Analyst - Summer Intern

About Midtown Alliance:

Midtown Alliance is a coalition of business and civic leaders focused on promoting economic development by creating an exceptional urban experience in Midtown, Atlanta. Our priorities include streetscape and transportation enhancements; creating publicly accessible parks and plazas; street level arts and activation; public safety, maintenance and beautification programs; and ensuring the active engagement of our leadership and community. Midtown Alliance is a non-profit organization with a staff of 50, governed by a 10-person Executive Committee and a 68-person Board of Directors.

Summary of this Role:

The position includes working between departments as part of a dynamic organization whose work has led to the growth of one of the most vibrant and successful urban districts in the Southeast. You will join the team with the responsibility to catalog, quantify, map, and interpret both the district’s assets and the impact of our programs. This would include:

  • Research and Analysis:
    Populate and maintain databases inventorying Midtown assets for: development, retail spaces, commercial tenants, employment, land use, transportation facilities, public realm features, and other categories.

    Execute research projects to support departmental priorities including residential, office and retail uses and open spaces and other needs.
  • Mapping and Data Visualization:
    Render GIS maps, execute data visualization projects, and support various reporting that effectively communicate key information to our internal and external audiences. Examples include an inventory of ROW elements (including streetlights banners), retail tenants, along with a means to map and maintain similar community infrastructure.
  • Marketing and Communications Support:
    Support communications across Midtown Alliance’s print, digital and event platforms. This includes geographic data updates to our web pages including our online Resource Center and explaining any key findings from research and its meaning in the larger context of Midtown issues.
  • External Coordination:
    Point of contact for data and relationships with outside agencies to coordinate GIS shapefiles, including parcel data, retail census and ACS data, and ROW info including street furniture, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Urban Planning, Real Estate, Public Policy, Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of undergraduate experience.
  • Licensed and proficient in ARC GIS and MS Office (notably Excel) or AirTable.

Compensation:

Midtown Alliance offers $18-$20 per hour with an expected flexible 15-24 hour work week. We expect the internship to run from May-August but are flexible. Midtown Alliance has a convenient transit accessible location. We also will work with your institution with an intent to provide credit hours if desired.
