Meredith Lobb is bringing a fun, new type of fitness offering to Midtown. And there’s no time to sit idle. The enthusiastic do-it-all owner of the soon-to-open BODYROK pilates studio keeps a busy schedule ahead of her mid-August opening, from overseeing the build-out of her space in Colony Square to answering phones, setting up her marketing and leading demo classes in the community.

We sat down with Lobb in her brand new studio - as construction crews worked in the background to install fixtures and paint the walls - to learn about what’s in store.

From Client to Owner: Buying Into BODYROK

When she was living in New York City, Meredith Lobb got involved with BODYROK fitness as a loyal client. She credits BODYROK’s pilates workout regimen with getting her in peak physical shape for her wedding. She achieved her fitness goals. But something was missing in her corporate career pursuits. So when Lobb and her family recently relocated to Atlanta, she made a big change.

“I fell in love with the BODYROK brand, the workout, and the community,” Lobb said. “So when I learned they were expanding into new cities, I decided to jump in. Now I’m opening a BODYROK studio in Midtown Atlanta.”

As she started to learn her new surroundings in ATL, Lobb said it became clear that Midtown was the right location for a BODYROK studio. She saw a great fit between the population density here and the demographics for people seeking fitness options.

“There's a lot of young professionals, young people, as well as families nearby, even in Ansley Park, that would benefit from this workout,” she said. “Midtown is the place where people want to be. There's a strong sense of identity and community in Midtown, which is really special.”

Pilates Explained: The Workout

For those unfamiliar, what is Pilates and how does it work? Lobb said there are many different styles of Pilates and Pilates-inspired workouts, and the BODYROK version skews toward Pilates-inspired.

“It's a low-impact workout,” Lobb said of the BODYROK classes, which are 45 minutes long to accommodate clients’ busy schedules. “That means it's something you can do multiple times a week throughout many stages of life, as you're rehabbing from injury, as you're getting older or as your body changes. It's a sustainable workout that you can create a habit around and do forever.”

According to Lobb, attending BODYROK classes an average of at least 2-3 times a week is optimal, but many dedicated clients make time in their schedules to come more often.

“It’s about inclusivity and empowerment,” Lobb said. “We want everyone to feel welcome. All of our classes are open to beginners, and our instructors are trained to give you a great first experience.”

Pilates Explained Further: Get Up Close with the Contraption That Helps You Get Fit

Central to a Pilates workout is the reformer, a custom-built machine designed especially for BODYROK that looks like a medieval torture device at first glance. But it actually works with your body on both resistance and movement to tone and strengthen muscles you never knew you had.

Think of the reformer like a Swiss army knife to sculpt your body. It has a lot of bells and whistles, and instructors are trained to get the most out of the machine. So every time you come to class, you're getting a different experience. You sit down in the machine for some exercises, while for others you might only use the accessories on one side of it.

The reformer allows for a high-intensity workout, and BODYROK classes mix in a little bit of cardio. The decked-out studio also has a projection on the wall to show the correct positioning for each exercise before you start, along with overhead lighting that changes to match the intensity of the exercise and music playlists that sync the beats to workout movements.

“You leave the class feeling like you really got a good workout in and you challenged yourself,” Lobb said. “And most importantly, you leave feeling empowered. The bottom line with this class and why I fell in love with it when I was a client is that you see results quickly.
