Who and what do we choose to honor in public spaces? Whose stories are told—and whose are left out?
In this hands-on workshop, participants will design monuments that celebrate liberation, resilience, and overlooked histories. Led by M21D and MODA, this interactive session invites you to imagine the monuments you want to see in the world and have a voice in what is remembered in your community.
Through discussion, design, and creative making, you’ll:
Explore the role of monuments in shaping history and collective memory.
Identify people, movements, and moments that deserve recognition.
Discussing what liberation, resilience, and overlooked histories meant each of us.
Use paper, clay, paint, and other materials to build a model of your own monument.
Present your vision and reflect on the power of public memory.
What if monuments didn’t just commemorate the past, but helped design a more just future? Join us at MODA and make your mark.
